Question:
Can anyone help me? The starter was just replaced in 2001, just bought a new solenoid and battery and still not getting anything. I was hoping someone could help me out with this, would like it up and running again. Let me know if you need more details.

They have a horrible starter gear system which sounds like its going to fall apart, even when new.
Don't jump start it from a car, etc, you can cause more problems including burning out the regulator rectifier unit.
You may want to invest in a Battery Tender if your not riding often enough to keep battery fully charged

Viragos of that time had garbage "starter clutches". Check a few things first.--Make sure the engine isn't siezed. On the left crankcase cover is a round flat plate that the "Yamaha" logo is attached to (3 bolts). Remove it and turn the center nut (crankshaft). You might have to remove the spark plugs if it's to stiff.
--Engine OK? Bypass the starter solenoid. With a large screw driver, touch both of the large terminals of the solenoid at the same time (carefull of sparks).
--If the engine cranks, the solenoid or it's conections could be bad.
--If no crank, could be weak battery, bad starter motor, or bad starter clutch.
--To rule out the battery, hook some jumper cables up to a car battery and jump directly to the starter motor. Pos cable to wire on starter motor and Neg to any ground (battery (-), engine motor mount bolt).
--Still no good, check the starter motor.
--Remove the starter motor from the engine. Two bolts and pry out of the case with a screw driver (to re-install, grease the
o-ring on the starter motor and tap into case with a soft hammer)
--If the starter motor spins with force when you push the starter button, then most likely the starter clutch needs repair.
