Pans/Knuckles didn't have electric starts until 1965, the last year of the Panhead.
You can add electric start, but it (like all Harley electric starts) runs off the clutch basket, rather than the engine, so what type of engine you have is unimportant for this topic.
The starter mounts to the ALUMINUM (NOT Stamped Steel [or TIN primaries, as they are called]) Primary Case.
