Has anyone heard of the Harley Davidson plant in Pennsylvania closing down?

I just heard that there is a dispute between the union and the Company and the company has taken a hard stance and closed down. I think prices just went up. What are your thoughts on this?

my plant has a 2-tier wage system in place. new hires except welders start $2 under top rate for job class. every1 also chips in on their insurance. when i started, the comp. paid for it, but that ended 8 years ago or so....was gettin way to expensive for the comp to afford it.
probably the #1 thing on any union's mind is how much insurance that the company will try to make them pay while their ceo's collect a huge paycheck. i would find it reasonable to have a 2 tier wage scale. time on the job should count for something. it wont close down, but it will put a hit on hd's profits for the time being. the union will want to return to work as soon as possible, but they also should have a fair and reasonable contract.

YES.....you are right......Last Thursday the plant quit producing the touring and softail models and shut the plant in anticipation of a walkout on Friday......which by the way did occur. The dispute is over the plant wanting the employees to start contributing to their medical insurance. Up until now the company has paid it all. Also the company wanted to start a two tier salary...in other words paying new hires way less than someone who has been there doing the same job. This is a growing trend for large companies to do this. These are the very same issues that Goodyear and its Union fought over here recently. The reason I know this is because one of the plants is here in Fayetteville and many of my friends work there and JT was telling me what was going on.........
