2004 GSX-R 750 What does the speed sensor ride on.?

Question:
More specifically doesn't attach to anything. It plugs into a hole in the sprocket cover. When I took the cover off there were chunks metal that when reasembled looked like they would make a small odd washer, with about 4 small stantions on it.
I guess this is what relayed the speed to the sensor.
Can anyone tell me how and what it attaches to in the sproket case.

Any body got a motorcycle/scooter for $1000 or less that goes at least 65mph, & is Road safe. I'm new @ this.

That reluctor ring bolts on to the end of the counter shaft .See pictures in link.
