As others have said, the actual rider was McQueen's great friend, stuntman Bud Ekins, riding a Triumph TR6 dressed to look like a wartime bike - actual German bikes would have been BMW "Boxer" opposed twins, not the vertical twin engine designed by Edward Turner. However, McQueen himself is said to have been riding the bike pursuing Ekins, which did not require any such extravagant stunts. That could easily have been a BMW, which at the time of filming, would have changed very little in design from those in Wehrmacht use in WW2.Who will be Factory Yamahas title sponsor next season?
