Without getting into the science of it; loud pipe piss people off they DO NOT save lives. Ride as if you where invisible and within you limits that will save your life.

In answer to 98Vortec, it is not for power, it is for their own safety. Other people can hear you if the exhaust is louder. I have been riding since 99 and I have found that D and D pipes are pretty loud. I have always had good luck with them. Check them out.I need 6 characters for my motorcycle license plate?
There is no evidence anywhere that loud pipes save lives.If your on a sport bike doing even 50mph (slow) anyone who may pull out in front of you will not hear you until too late.
They have to see you and also acknowledge your presence.
In my experience (I've ridden over 300,000 miles on motorcycles, not including racing ) the only way to stay safe (ish) is to be aware of whats going on around you. Loud pipes normally wake up sleeping cops who then ticket you for everything they can think of (and make up other stuff as well) It also really upsets Joe Public who want more stringent regulations for all motorcycles. Loud isn't fast, its just annoying
I don't advocate everything should be as quiet as a Gold Wing or BMW, but it shouldn't be so loud it p**** everyone off

if u do just a little bit of research, u'll see that dyno sheets paints a very poor picture on the performance of straight pipes in a typical street riding application. this isnt just on cruisers, but sport bikes also. typical rpm range of street riding is under 3500 rpms. i dont even hit this at a speed of 65. straight pipes are for wide open throttle applications, and who's gonna be in that range on the street 9x's out of 10?Can I upgrade to a fatter wheel on a Lifan LF200 motorcycle??
if u are relying on loud pipes to save yer azz all the time, maybe its time to hang up the boots. those pipes isnt going to put the brakes on the car, or to block him from doing the lethal left turn in front of u. the only thing that those pipes will do is what some have already said...u will seriously piss some cop off cuz u disturbed his beauty sleep, or maybe u made him drop some coffee in his lap. u will cause alot of peeps to have a negitive opinion of bikes in general...up to and including BANNING bikes from even getting access in their zone; like...condo area's, apt. complexes, etc.
u need to re-adjust ur riding...namely, ride as if u are invisible. u could have pipes that would rival the noise level of a jake brake.but they wont get u home if u get put down from grandma turning left.

i used to work with a guy that subscribed to the 'loud pipes' thinking. he had a very nice victory bike and took the 'too quiet' pipes off within a couple weeks after getting it. about a month or 2 into the season, some old bat pulled out in front of him, but in his case, it wasnt the typical left turner that almost killed him. she was on his side, and was planning to join traffic on a right hand turn. she pulled out at point blank range, and he hit her hard. didnt even have time to crack the throttle. he was out of work for 9 months. if u really want to have the best performance, u should look into getting it on the dyno after having the stage 1 and 2 put on instead of extra loud pipes that will be totally worthless in saving yer a-ss.Where's the best place to buy motorcycle tyres?
