06 ninja 500 better mpg or acceleration?

Question:
I want to know what I can do to upgrade my bike to get more mpg per tank or else to get more acceleration. I don't care much about top speed. I do realize its usually 1 or the other either more mpg or more acceleration. I have a muzzy pipe on it and it sounds great. I got 3 mpg better when I put that on. I have heard about changing sprockets and I was wondering what size and how many teeth and do I have to change the chain if I do that?

I got gas in the face from Harley gas tank, do these tanks have a overflow line?

you can go as much as 3 fewer teeth and gain mpg.
