How do you change the oil on a 2005 Honda Shadow 750?

Here's the procedure: 1) Start the engine (from a cold engine), idle it for 2-3 minutes (gets the oil warm for better draining, also gets any sediment at the bottom of the pan into suspension so it drains out with the oil, all without getting the engine too hot to work on), turn engine off; 2) leave the bike on the side stand, remove the dipstick/oil fill cap (to allow better drainage, keeping internal pressures in balance), place a drain pan beneath the drain plug (located on the left side of the oil pan, visible behind the left frame rail), remove the oil pan bolt and allow the oil to drain into the drain pan; 3) replace the oil pan bolt and torque to spec (if you can, but it's difficult to get a torque wrench in that area, so most just snug the bolt and tighten another 1/4 turn or so - don't over-tighten); 4) place the drain pan beneath the oil filter (located at the rear of the engine, most easily accessed from the right side of the bike) and turn the oil filter off the bike, dropping it in the drain pan so it also drains; 5) put a light coat of engine oil on the new oil filter gasket and screw it on the oil filter mount at the rear of the engine, again, reaching in from the bottom right side of the bike - turn it snug, then either torque it to specs (I don't recall the torque specs, offhand) or snug it down another 1/4 to 1/2 turn; 6) fill with oil through the oil fill hole (I believe it takes 2.54 quarts (from memory), but I don't have the specs at hand, check your owner's or service manual), then replace the dipstick/oil fill cap; 7) start engine, let it idle for 2-3 minutes (check for oil leaks around the filter base while it is running), turn it off, let it sit on the sidestand, and check oil level, adjust as necessary. Important - do not overfill! Voila - you've just changed the oil on your Honda, and saved a lot of money on basic preventive maintenance!

Yamaha V Star Custom 2007?

EDIT: Before replacing the drain plug in the crankcase, install a NEW washer gasket, available from your nearest Honda motorcycle dealer at a cost of only a few cents.

Motercycle for sale?

BTW, I highly recommend that you buy the Honda service manual for your bike - it will allow you to do all the service and repairs on it, and you will know that all service is done correctly that way. In the long (and even short) run, it will save you a lot of money, and you will really get to know your bike a lot better. My recommendation - buy the actual Honda service manual (available through any Honda dealer), it is far superior to the other manuals published by Haynes, Clymer, etc.

Matte-Black bikes?

EDIT: I don't know if your bike is a 750 Aero (I assumed so, regarding the single carb comment earler) or a 750 Spirit (which has dual carbs, 34mm vs. the 36 mm carbs of the ACE, which was discontinued and "replaced" with the 750 Aero in 2004. In either case, you will find a lot of useful information on the "Strictly Ace" forum on Delphi (try www.sa750.com for links and info), much of which is applicable to your bike. There are also forums for the Spirit and 750 Aero on Delphi, but you will find that the Strictly Ace forum has probably the most extensive amount of technical information available on its webpage (and from the members) of almost any motorcycle forum I know of.
