Question:
how much power if any at all does the shaft drive on a suzuki c-50 bolivard "take" from the engine?....i have driven similar harley davidson modles i.e. an 883 sportster and they just seem to have a tremendous amount more power than the similar 800cc c-50 of which is also fuel injected

I don't have anything to support this, but the rule of thumb has always been a 20% loss of power through the drive line on shaft drives, and about half that with a chain and sprockets or belt drive.wiring diagram for electronic ignition on 1971 sl honda 70?

i am cutomizing my triumph motorbike?
the difference in power is not a function of power being robed by the shaft but rather a lack of horses on the part of the engine I owned an older 800 intruder that had crazy low end power but seemed to lack at the upper power isnt merely derived from displacementhow much would a 03 yamaha yzf 250 race ready be worth without a motor?
Ive had several mcs and love shaft drive...i do agree the differnce is the motor..you may lose a little power with the shaft but when you have a 450 pound bike with 60 or 80 hp the loss is smallhow does a harley sprotster 883 compares with the harley sportster 1200?
Has it occurred to you that the overall weight of the bike is affecting your butt-dynometer?? An 883 is nothing more than two wheels and an engine - the C50 is way larger and heavier, thus it takes more power to move it forward. It could have the identical HP of an 883 and still feel slower...What's the good and bad about bike clubs?
15-20% loss with shaft8-12% loss with belt
less than 5% with chain
But I've heard rumors about a BMW shaft drive that is incrediably efficient.
