Could any one tell me how to start my 400Ex in the cold? its full of fuel and I tried the choke but it wont start. Is there anything I can do that WON'T hurt it or make it run different.

Well my buddy has an 05 honda 400ex and his is very cold natured. The other day we tried to crank it and it had a hard time cranking and it was only like 40 degrees. So after riding he put it up in his shed and left a shop light on the motor to keep it sorta warm and yesterday i went over to chill with him and we fired it up with no problem. and it was much colder than 40 degrees. If any thing else try this, it may work.. i hope it helps, good luck.I assume that it may have been awhile since you had it started last time? Try this, open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb float bowl and drain out about 1/2 cup of gas. The gas in float bowls goes stale real fast, drain the bowl let some fresh gas from the tank flow in and try to restart. I see this problem time after time in the spring when people pull their bikes out from winter storage. If you have been cranking on it for awhile you may need to put in a dry plug, be careful, the plugs on those things are kinda difficult to get at.

speedy's right ex's are just inherently cold blooded. I start mine with the choke lever all the way forward and with 1/4 throttle until it idles (takes several tries) then you can gradually use less choke. Don't ride it away until you can feel some heat building up in the cylinder.I wanna get an ideal bike in the terms of looks, mileage & cost...your suggestions are welcome?
oh and try turning up the idle a tad sometimes they need more fuel/air in the cold
