Not recommended.especially on a cruiser or sport bike. Now a dirt bike or dual sport bike with the proper tires is do-able. Unfortunately I have ridden in the snow.caught off guard by the weatherman. Giving you the benefit of my personal experineces,,,dont let anyone tell you that a motor cycle cannot be rode in the snow or on ice,,,i have rode many winters on my motorcycles,,and i've never come off my bikes.I've also never had an accident with any of my bikes,,and i'm considered to be a real mad man on two wheels,,or at least i used to be.
Other people would point and stare,,and have all kinds of negative things to say,,,,,,,but i never once seen any of the
nay sayers try it themselves.
But i have to be clear,,,,Winter riding is not for novices,,,it takes a good while to gain the experience needed to ride on snow or ice.
And some good buddies to help lift you off the bike after a very long ride,,Lol
You appear to be speculating the purchase of a street bike. Summer weather and dry roads and perfect for bikes, lots of rubber to road grip. But water or snow or ice will take the grip your tires have with the road away. It is in low grip situations where you will lose control. By lose control, I mean no steering and no breaking. You lose these two things that are crucial to being able to keep you safe on the road.

Motorcycles are not meant for low grip situations. So to blunty answer your question, no. If you don't have something else to drive in the winter months, it'll be quite a stretch, in my opinion.
do as well as they would on totally clean roads? no, not quite. can they be ridden in snow? yup. there's a guy in town that is doing that very thing on a street legal dirt bike right now even after nature got thru dumpin 10" of white stuff all over.
would i consider taking my harley in snow? hmmmm.the only way i would do it would be to swap the street tires for knobbies. but i dunno if they make knobbies in sportster size offhand.
there are quite a few people i personally know who can and does ride a street bike 365 days a year, in any and all weather conditions. they have ballz the size of hubcaps for sure.

My old Harley Servi-Car does great in the snow. It's a blast!Absolutely not, not unless you plan on killing yourself! They don't even do well on a dirt or gravel road in the summertime. There's no way you can safely ride in the snow without being seriously injured. Anyways, you never want to take your bike out in the snow because the road salt will rust your bike pretty badly!
