Why buy a harley when you can buy a more reliable bike?

Question:
I'm a bit confused. Japanese manufacturers make very similar looking/sounding/feeling cruisers as Harley-Davidson. However, the reliability of the Jap. bike is much higher than the American one (reflecting the automotive industry). The thing that differs from the auto industry is the American bike is grossly more expensive than the Jap one.

Whats the purpose of an exhaust tip?

Is it really just heritage/patriotism that's keeping these Harleys on the road? I'm sorry, that seems silly to me.

I am looking for any triumph photos or history of the factory?

Yeah Thats true, Harleys Suck I like Choppers better, am More of Sport bike Companies like Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, Aprilia, Mv Augusta, bmw kinda but They need more motorcycles. I think Harley are just a heritage or tradition, some people look at them as big boy motorcycle but they suck, get a chopper

Dirt bike question?

Reliability is NOT the only reason people choose or not choose a bike. There is nothing wrong with any modern Harley

Stud broke on exhaust.?

The argument over the best quality bike I'll leave to the hardcore fans, but Harley-Davidson bikes are different from any other vehicle made in America; a whole subculture has grown around them and HD is at its heart. The AMC years were definitely difficult, but the current bikes are definitely well-made. Quality levels between the two simply isn't the wide gap it used to be.

What was the bike goose had in the mad max film?

I have put 18,000 miles on a Harley fxdwg in the last 4 years without any problems, breakdowns etc. Harleys are reliable, hold their resale value better than any other bike and are the real deal. Any Japanese 'copy' cruiser is an inferior because it is hust that.an inferior copy. Oh and by the way I've owned a kawasaki vn & a Yamaha Dragstar in the past so I'm not just a Harley only person. The Japanese bikes rusted a lot quicker than the Harley and the chrome started to flake off them within a year of purchase. They also sounded flatulent compared to a set of Vance & Hines on a 1450. The Harley is a way of life..

Harley's have a coolness factor that appeals to certain people. Those people just happen to have the kind of disposable income that can afford their inflated prices.

Yamaha Virago 535 ( xv535 ) reserve fuel tap?

seems like u are just not worthy to be seen sittin on a harley, u cant afford one, or u just cant accept that harley is built better now than they were back in the days before all that rice was spilled on our roads.

What are the breaking distance for motorbikes?

at least a harley's chrome doesnt peel or flake off within a year after rolling it out the dealer's door. seems alot of these rice cruiser's are almost heavier than a harley...specially that fat sow gold wing; heavier and 2 grand more expensive than an ultra classic. go figure.

What lane?

Its all hype..Harley owners remind me of teenage girls who all go to the mall and buy the same Jeans/Shoes/Purses/Motorcycles BECAUSE they're the most expense pair of Jeans/Shoes/Purses/Motorcycles and because DUH everyone else has one. Of course once you have a HARLEY you're in the clique, you're a REAL biker and not a poser like the guy down the street who is averaging 12,000 miles a year on his JAP CRAP. As for the higher resale value. Most of the Harleys you see for RESALE have less that 1,000 miles on them..and for the most part...they have never been ridden more that 40 or 50 miles at a time. So people ask about what they paid for them. If you doubt me on this see what a 2000 fatboy with 50,000 miles on it is worth. (if you can find a fatboy with that kind of mileage)

Bikes Laid over while parked overnight.?

Everybodies got to ride their own ride..and I have nothing against people who want to spend new car money on a bike..Just like I have nothing against people who spend $200 for a pair of jeans.. Just don't walk around in your $200 jeans while telling me my Levi's are crap !!

Need Help Switching from Sportbike to Cruiser?

Another one that knows less than I. At least I know that HDs are nothing like they used to be. The manufacturing quality has improved a great deal since the AMF days. Had to, or they would have gone under. Were going under - why else sell it to the employees? The new ones don't quite SOUND like the old ones, and they certainly don't FEEL like the old ones. Balanced engines and rubber mounts did more than just get rid of the "shake". The current engine/transmission set-up is as rigid as any single case design. As far as the guy that likes "choppers", where do you think they came from? A collection of old design aftermarket HD parts bolted together by somebody that calls themselves a "builder"!

I am looking for a pillion seat backrest suitable for honda cbr 600 fy sport for 3 day charity bike run june?

I could have had what others call "more reliable", but I think I'll rely on the Unlimited Mileage warranty.

I wana to purchase tvs economy bike tell me which one is better?

Well when I started riding bikes, finding out what bike I liked, it was during the AMF years for Harley and sorry but that is a hard thing to forget. I still consider them a bike that goes to the service station and tells them to fill'er up with oil and check the gas! Because I am an american, living in the great USA,working hard for my american dollars I will buy what I want, and that was an 800 Vulcan. Bubbly..A Harley wanna be is someone that wears all the Harley gear and talks big on them but has never owned one. There are too many people that just buy them or talk them up to be "cool". Because of the Harley owners talking trash like on here, I would rather push my Jeep uphill, than to be seen riding a Harley! I do have alot of friends that ride Harleys and they don't talk like that and they could care less if I ride a moped. One last thing, I will admit, I read some where that 80% of all Harleys ever built are still on the road today...the other 20% made it home!

Am i to big for this dirt bike?

Isn't it obvious? Sure the Japanese and German stuff is light years ahead of a Harley, but how are you supposed to look cool in your buttless chaps and frilly leather chinese made Harley jacket when you are sitting on a Japanese bike? And lets not forget that the resale on a Harley is sooooooooo much better - you can get a fatboy that someone has put $30k into for about $16k these day - that's an investment! And you can still get parts for 25 year old Harleys... thats mainly because they haven't hardly changed since then, but can you say that about a Japanese bike? I think not!

What is the best sport bike for a first time rider?

if we all rode the same make of motorcycles that would be
boring.it's nice to have a choice.

How much for Honda VFR400?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but when did Jap bikes become more reliable than Harleys? I suppose if you're still thinking of the AMF years, then granted the Harleys were not as reliable. Unfortunately for you, those days are long gone. The present day Harleys are very reliable. I have never had a problem with my 2002 FXD Super Glide. I rode Suzuki and Kawasaki bikes before I started riding Harleys. They were in no way more reliable than my Harley. If you cannot afford one, that's too bad, but don't use 30 year old arguments to justify a prejudice opinion.

Whats the monthly budget of gasoline for a motorcycle?

beatin this dead horse again are we, jesus kids! I can't wait untill the wheather warms up so I can be on the bike this time of night instead of on this brain sucking piece of plastic cabin fever sucks man!

What is the best way to control a sport-bike around a sharp corner?

3 Cheers for Meiskul!
OH, and another rant from me... OK no rant today. Too tired and cabinfeverish.
I don't like HD. I don't like cruisers OR their baggers OR Buell, even though a there are Buell sport touring bikes, although not really very good ones, PLUS they are V twins. I don't think HD really hold their resale value very well. Used to, but now it's a farce. Same for other high ticket vehicles, they drop like stones now, Caddy, BMW, Mercedes, not good investments, like they ever were.
I do think HD quality is alot better now, than even 10 yrs ago, to say nothing of AMF bikes.
I don't know what keeps them on the road, which isn't to say they don't deserve to be on the road, but it's baffling to me. Based on what I've seen you might call it heritage or patriotism. They just have this massive amount of followers that think HD can do now wrong, the sun rises and sets by the bar and shield. That's what they're in to, fine. You can't really compare them to anything else, except the wanna-be bikes. I WILL give Harley this: If I were in the market for a V Twin bike of any kind, but specifically a cruiser, I would look at them. I do sorta like the new remake of the cafe racer, I thought those were kinda neat, the first ones. But I don't really like the cruiser look, and not what I do with the bike anyways, but I'd appreciate the "real deal" over the jap rip-offs. There, closest thing to a complement you'll hear from me towards The Company.

How to get a Lifan 200 motorcycle from China titled?

Don't listen to Biker Bob - he bought his Harley 4 months ago. Us real Harley riders know better. Sure - I've put about $30k into my bike, but I'll be able to sell it for at least that much (I see similar bikes going for $15 to $20k, but I know mine is better). And don't let anyone tell you you can't afford to own a Harley... you can't afford NOT to own a Harley! Just think of the respect it buys you from other members of the leatherclad psuedo badass biker and homosexual biking community (they love that leather). And financing.. Harley would finance a monkey these days so any idiot can own one!

Need info on towing a motorcycle behind a car - tongue weight...?

I ride a Honda. My wife rides a Harley. I bought mine for price and reliability. She bought hers because she wanted a Harley. I ride both and prefer the Honda. It just fits me better. No mechanical issues with either bike yet. I just can't justify an extra 9 grand for the name on the tank. A jap bike that sells for 9 grand and sells for 6 grand used held its value exactly the same as a Harley that sells for 18 grand new and 12 grand used.

I realize its winter, but where's all the Harleys?

Go and buy yourself a metric. It seems from your question that you have already made up your mind. Different strokes for different folks. Enjoy your ride.

What is a good bike for a girl (40)?

It's really just a matter of personal preference as far as the overall bike. A new Harley is just as reliable as almost anything else on the market (one might even remove the word 'almost' from that statement since Honda discontinued the CB750 after 03).

Is this hilarious or what!??!?!?!?

They copyed a Harley, That's what I ride. I have had not 1 problem with my Harley. So if you like giving the Japanese money to buy American Property Maybe you should go live there. There is nothing LIKE A HARLEY

California motorcycle license?

Harleys are good Bikes ,Ive had a few but more into the Jap bikes thse days, for the price of a Jap Bike u cant beat it , I see a lot of bikes out on the High ways and byways thse days but the guys that ride the most are these sport bike guys, geeze it can be 30 degrees out and they still team up and ride ,besides that I notice they are all for one another and ride in big packs unlike the cruiser guys today with maybe 3 here are 5 there going down the road , I just never understood the mentality of people thinking they may be better because of there ride /peace

1985 fxrs problems?

I've ridden Honda,Kawasaki,Yamaha. All good bikes, reliable and cheaper, but like many of you know that have a Harley, there really isn't anything like the experience of the sound, feel, and the look of a Harley. There seems to be alot of issues concerning the differences of all bikes with price being the main issue. But really now, it's all a preference. There's really no reason to get all heated up over an issue that no one is going to agree on. Hell, all you people just as well be talking about politics or religion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so lets talk about the good things of riding a bike, the FREEDOM, THE RUSH, or whatever you want to call it of riding your own bike no matter what the make. When and if I see any of you on the road I'll give you a wave and we'll both go down the road happily ever after.

How much is a 1984 TRX200 4 wheeler worth?

because going 100 miles an hour all the time is overrated, more importantly, when you pay it off in a few years the harley will still be worth as much or more than when you bought it.
