got it serviced+ mechanic told me ex-up valve seized. he's disconnected cables. still works but very poor performance. gets to 7,000 rpm, then dies of death. can only get 80 mph. kan this really affect performance that much...??? do i need to get replacement to get it backside into reality...??

It is a valve on the exhaust plumbing. At low rpm it allows a lesser amount of exhaust gas to bypass, enhancing low rpm performance. As you roll open the throttle, the valve opens more, to deal with the extra flow, enhancing high rpm performance. You have a valve that is seized in the partially closed position, or has stripped gears on the servo motor. Maybe seized cables. Your engine is being choked. Racers always ditched them, since they don't require low rpm power. Plus they weigh 20lbs. You can wire it open. You will notice a decrease in available power at low rpm. You could change the exhaust. Try a bike salvage yard. BDK Engineering has a high performance example. 400's are a bit on the rare side here.(Canada). Cool little bike!

You could take the pipe off, remove the exup cover & cover it in WD40 & wait a while, try to rotate the valve, if it free's up, give it a good lube & bob's your uncle. Put it back together, not forgetting to connecting the cables back to it!
