i have a 2001 honda shadow and the chain is loose but i dont know how to tighten it.

Can i do my Theory bike test before my CBT Please Help?
Look at the at the area around the rear axle and chain for the adjuster mechanisms... there should be one on each side. The adjusters move the axle backward to make up for the loosening of the chain overtime.
Just turn the screws until the chain slack is within the range printed on the swingarm or in the service manual. If you look closely there are notches on the adjusters, make sure the adjusters line up to the same notch on both sides or your wheel will be misaligned. If you find that the bike is pulling to one side you should fine tune the adjustment screws using the string method to make sure the wheel is centered... sometimes the notches aren't that accurate.
What type of dirt bike should i get my kid??
Move the rear axle rearward. Some looseness is normal. Remember that the rear suspension has to move freely up and down. Make sure if you adjust it that the chain is not too tight through the complete range of rear suspension travel.Forward controls installation?
Move the rear tire back. If you are not sure how to do this, take it to someone who does. If you get it to tight or not squaired will cause more problems than you want.Loosen the real axle nut and simply turn the adjusters in to tighten the chain. Simple rule to keeping the wheel straight is to count the turns on the adjuster and make sure each side is turned the same number of times. Be careful not to get the chain to tight and remember to tighten all locking nuts and rear axle nut when your done. After riding a short time check the tension on the chain to make sure you haven't got it to tight.
