I have 1974 Honda CB 550. It has terrible looking, aftermarket, short mufflers on it. I want to change them. I don't like the original mufflers made for the bike either. I want big chrome Harley Davidson style mufflers. Can I but Harley mufflers and throw them on my bike? I want to buy some on Ebay but I want to shure they will fit. I can't find out what size I need. Are they adjustable?

hay Ed, you will need to measure up the end of the head pipes, the you must match them to Type mufflers you plan to use. you will also need to take into consideration that you will need a collar to seal them( generally a asbestos type seal). you also need to know that any change to the system will most likely require that you re-jet the carbs. if it were me i would go to the Honda shop and buy a set of Kirkers but that is me . anyway good luck whatever you choose:)

If they are slip-ons just find out the diameter of your header pipes and ask the Harley parts counter guy if this model slip-on will fit that diameter. No, they are not adjustable.Can I get a motorcycle alarm which doubles up as a petrol lock ?

Measure your header pipe diameter (in inches- there are only a few standard sizes). Take this to a large motorcycle parts/accessories emporium where they should have aftermarket universal slip-on mufflers for bikes such as yours.Harley mufflers are possible, but they will have mounts in all the wrong places, and they won't be symmetrical, ie, left and right, because most Harleys have mufflers both on the right hand side in a high/low configuration.
Universal aftermarket mufflers used to be very common and you should still be able to find them in a range of styles: they are usually not great quality but quite cheap and okay.

If there slip-ons...you can also go to muffler shop..they have real long chrome tips in diff sizes...Imade mine30" of straight 3" slash cut pipe, you have the header pipes.
