Question:
Hi, my question is does anyone know if a piston from some other engine (from another motorcycle, automobile, snowmobile, etc.) will fit (maybe after some modifications) the Honda VT500 engine? Or are there somewhere any piston cross-reference tables?
Please do not post answers with where I can find the original piston, I just want to know if there is any other pistons out there with approximately the same dimensions as the VT500 pistons.
Thank you.

How about an aftermarket piston from Wiseco might be worth contacting them they should hace a website thats easy to find
I don't know of any direct piston swaps for the VT.
When you're searching, you know there are four things you'll need to look at to determine if a piston from a different model will work:
Diameter - determine the largest piston that will fit in the stock sleeves safely. The bore should leave at least .030" of spigot at the bottom of the sleeve.
Piston Pin Size.

Piston Pin-To-Deck height - this varies greatly, most older piston designs use a taller p.t.d. http://www.powroll.com/images/00348a.jpg... , many newer ones are extremely short http://www.powroll.com/images/products-w... .

Head dome configuration. Check out those piston pics again, the first one is only about 10.5:1 compression in an early-style head. The second one is nearly 13:1 compression (although the first piston looks like it's got way more squeeze). The piston dome needs to closely follow whatever head dome configuration the VT has from the factory.

Valves - Valve location and pocket angle will also be different, depending on the stock head design.
With all these variables, it's usually difficult to find something that will fit from a different model, without getting really lucky, or spending a ton of time and money to make it happen.
The easiest way to get the pistons you want is to have them made. Custom built forged pistons can be ordered from JE http://www.jepistons.com/, or Arias http://www.ariaspistons.com/ .

Minimum quantity is 4 from either company. Typical turn-around time is about 6 weeks.
These high-quality forged pistons are usually lighter in weight and more durable than stock pistons.
