Question:
I bought a automatic trickle charger for my battery and i let the battery charge full. I rode the bike three times over about a week in a half and each time i rode maybe about 25 mikles each trip. Yesterday i rode the bike maybe about ten miles and i saw the gs light on so i stopped for gas. And when i tried to restart the bike it was dead. Now is this the normal?

the acid level, top off w/ acid..not water. Charge and take to shop to, have it LOAD- tested. depending on testor they can check for other things at same time, this will tell you whats wrong. they should do this for free, cause they want to sell parts. Dont trust your shop, some auto parts stores offer the same, for the same reason
Better bike? harley 883R, 883L or buell blast?
i had the same problem but it was my spark plugs. i had a tune up done to my CBR and put new plugs in it. and my battery kept dying they didnt know what was wrong with it and the shop had it for like a month, and turns out they put spark plugs in it that were too big for it and they were pulling all the battery power and draining it. so before you go and change your starter and stuff like that look at the little things tooHow do I change the sparkplug on a Geely scooter?

A. Your bikes alternator is not working correctly or working only sometimes (and in the process of going bad)
OR
B. You have installed some accessories lately that have increased the power draw beyond what your bikes's alternator in it's current output level can sustain. IE you have some lights that draw 50 amps, and your alternator is rated at 35 amps. (look in your manual and see what your alt. is rated)
Other than leather, What is the best insulated motorcycle clothing for riding in cold weather?
Questions for A:
1. Check your ground wires. are they tight? clean with no corrosion? are they broken right at the connector??(wiggle and gently pull on them) is the wire's insulation cracked or worn through? while your on the grounds just take each on loose from the frame and clean it clean the frame , tighten gently
2. check your battery cables to see if they are tight at the battery. Are they clean? clean them anyway.
3. check cable at starter. no corrosion and tight?
4. time to check the alternator. Crank bike, unplug positve battery cable, does it still run? (not for bikes with computer)
your bike has separate coils for the motor and the lights. So it could POTENTIALLY run and still not charge the lights. SOOOO with it running and the cable undone do the lights go out? (you'll haveta rev the bike to mid range, the alt doesn't put out it's highest at idle)

More power for a V-star 650 Custom?
Motorcycle batteries are very small and as such they have very little reserve capacity. If you leave you key on for 30 minutes while you fill up your battery will be dead.
AND most motorcycles the headlights stay on while you turn the starter over. both high load situations.
Is this a decent deal on a Honda CBR motorcycle??
I think its time to buy a new battery. I mean if your charging it for more then 5 hours and it still dies, the cells in your battery are over used and probably dead. Either that or you have a electrical problem on your bike causing it to drain the battery. How much commission do motorcycle salesmen make?
it dosent even sound like you have a working charging system. trickle chargers are slow chargers. it could take a day and a hald to fully charge a large battery. your battery could need replacing. batteries only have a lifespan of 2-3 years. mind that only if you look after them and keep them topped up. there are 2 marks on the side check yours and see if all cells are filled with acid in between the two marks. it sounds to me that either you battery needs replacing or your charging system(alternator or rectifier) need replacing. do a process of elimination. get a loan of a battery and see if its the battery if problems persist youll have to replace alternator or rectifier. even without a charging system a battery should last a week at least but if youre using lights you might only get an hour out of it. is there no kick start. v handy thing to have on a bike.Anyone have any reccomendations for a solid 500cc standard or cruiser motorcycle?
Connect a volt meter across the battery terminals. Start engine and rev. If the charging circuit is working the voltage should pick up to not be more than 14.5 at most, typically around 14 Volt. If the volatge does not pick up, U have a faulty charging circuit. If the volatge goes higher than 14.5 you are overcharging the battery and it will loose its capacity.More Questions & Answers ...
