Problems with my CBR600!!!?

Question:
Ive got a 98 Cbr600 and have a strange problem. When im in top gear between 6-7000rpm, the engine splutters and feels like its run out of fuel. It ONLY happens in top gear, and between those rev ranges. ive put in a new air filter, plugs and cleaned the carb. Any help would be great.

IT could be a flat spot caused by bad fuelling,have you changed the exhaust or the air filter for aftermarket items.if you have not done this then it could well be an electrical fault causing a breakdown of the spark under load conditions (HT leads,coils) the higher the gear the higher the load on both engine and spark either way a Haynes manual will help with diagnosis and repair.

It could be something as simple as a low float level. The fuel could be a little to low in the float bowls and the engine is sucking in fuel so fast the fuel in the float bowls can't keep up.

u probably are hitting the rev limiter. every bike..from cruiser to sport bike has them. they're set by the factory to keep u out of the red zone on the tach for long. this is to prevent engine damage. its a normal thing...when u hit the limiter, it will kick the rpm's way down for a couple seconds.

Cdi unit or regulater/rectifier? (motorcycle)?

Try checking the battery and rectifier.
Alternatively, if u ride with the head lights on, try switching it off and see any difference in it:)

may be worth having the carbs balanced/stripped. Are the plugs correctly gapped, are the leads in good order?
may be cheaper put into a bike shop before you throw any more money at it.
