Good question. When tapping up to second, you actually go through neutral to second - with just one tap. Most modern bikes have a neutral light to tell you when you are in neutral. Get it between 1st and 2nd gear with a half-shift. Kawasaki has this nifty little thing that will only shift into neutral from 1st when you come to a stop instead of juggling between gears, but once you get used to your bike it becomes natural.Neutral is between 1st and 2nd... so from first to neutral, it will be a half click instead of a full click which will put you in second gear..
