I've never ridden a motorcycle and I'm 30 years old. What would be the right type of bike for me to learn on?

Question:
And I mean the old-fashioned way: Just getting on one and learning by trial and error. (I don't know anybody who rides and I don't have the cash to hire a teacher or what not.) I drive stick on cars usually, so I'm familiar with clutch in/out and shifting, etc. I was planning on buying a cheap dirtbike and going out to some private property or maybe a deserted industrial area and just learning it old-school. Of course, I'll have a helmet and heavy clothes on, but should I wear a cup too? You know, to protect "the boys"? Dirtbike, yes/no? What do you think? Tell me! I appreciate all serious answers and thank you for your time!!!

What is a good cleaner for my bike?

I'm curious as to why you can afford a bike and minimal gear but you can't afford $250 for the MSF class? Believe me, its worth it. Even if you've been riding for awhile, you'll learn a lot.

I'm planning to get my bike licence this summer, and was wondering what a good starter bike would be?

After you take the MSF you'll have a better idea of what kind of bike suits you best.

Good to start on a dirt bike. Dirt is much softer than pavement. Grab a used one because you will spill it a lot at first.

Here's an example of a 250. You could probably handle one this size to start.

How do you take the seat off of a 2001 Suzuki SV 650?

small bikes are great to learn on..learning to use the front brake is a must..(over 80% of your braking)..if you want to stop before you stick it in the back of a car.

Does anyone know a site that has SUPPPERRR CHEAPPP mini bikes for sale?

something to consider...when riding a bike...if you want to go to the left..you must first pull the handle bars to the right & visa versa.(this causes the bike to lean in the direction you want to go) gyroscopic effect of the wheels. If Id known this I wouldnt have parked the bike in the back of a car...lol

when you take off on a bike your body will try to stay where it was..this causes you to lean back away from the handle bars.but!!! your right hand is holding the accelerator.as your hand tries to "peel off" the accelerator...it makes the bike go quicker...which makes your hand peel off quicker...which makes the bike go quicker.which..you get the idea...

Moped to Street bike..?

listen to some of the other answers, I agree, get a used bike. The best bet would be a 4 stroke because the 2 strokes hit hard and are harder to control compared to a 4 stroker. Here is a site to check out some bikes. p.s. I want to get a bike myself and I,'m 40 http://ww2.cycletrader.com/browse...

I am looking for a pillion seat backrest suitable for honda cbr 600 fy sport for 3 day charity bike run june?

i hear so many saying to start on a little bike. im an old lady, five foot two and weigh 130 lbs. I bought an 1100 yamaha and took off. have ridden for three years with no problems and am glad i bought what i wanted and learned to handle it. you can sign up and take a motorcycle riding course, many have bikes for you to learn on. call around and ask, its worth the money and it only takes up a day or two of your time.I see no need for the cups, lol, worry more about your head. you will be fine. see you on the road! also, dirt riding and street riding are very different.

On a motorcycle i have a 65 tooth rear pulley, how many teeth do i need on the drive pulley on the trans.?

Any older 250 Yamaha or Honda will do. If you can try to look for a dual sport (enduro) you can take them on streets and dirt. Don't be afraid to get a 1970-1980 you can find them relatively cheap, and you can get most parts for them on eBay if you need them. Make sure that it is a 4 stroke not a 2 stroke, a 2 stroke will be to powerful for you and you can hurt yourself pretty bad. I am not a guy so the cup is your call. In my opinion you may find that the cup is going to be more in the way then useful. You might want to call you local Police Dep. or Highway Patrol and see if they offer a Motorcycle training course. They have them here in Cali and they are a great way to learn your way around a bike as well as a great way to get practice for a license.

Where can I find a relay for Kawasaki motorcycle Junction Box?

any type of bike is good as long its a honda or a yamaha.
dont go for monsters like XJR1300s and CB 1300s or R1s. these bikes are very, very powerful and requires some years of riding experience under your belt to handle all that power. try to get your body weight and size in to comparison when choosing your bike. if you are big and heavy try a 250 or a 400 on for size and if you are smaller something less like a 125. a dirt bike is good coz its light, agile and manouverable. if not try to go for a muscle bike like an XJR400, CB400 super four or a Hornet 250 coz all these bikes handle pretty decently, looks good and has enough power to leave most cars behind. also take in to concideration the local traffic laws that rules out the amount of cc that a lerner can use. the 'cup' to protect the 'boys' is a good idea if you are riding trails but i should say that ive bloody fallen off (and flown off!!) a zillion times (once even with my mum on board!) and i havent recived any damage to the 'generators' so far. and always remember to ride within your limits and the limits of the machine and youll be glad that getting a bike between your leg was the best thing you ever did!
cheers!

Why is Yamaha RD 350cc still considered to be the powerful bike manufactured in India?

Dirt bikes and road bikes are different. you can learn some things on one but it will act different on the other. I would recommend a cheap road bike and learn how to ride in a parking lot around cones. You will not need a cup for that. But knee pads elbow pads, gloves and a helmet would be suffice.

How would i find out about a 1978 honda motorcycle?

Dirtbikes and roadbikes are different beasts. I have ridden both and if you practice on a dirtbike you'll pick up habits that are bad for road bikes. It's the best $250 you will ever spend.

2007 Yamaha V-star 650?

Probably the best way to go is to buy a decent helmet ($200) a decent jacket (not the "hey look I drive a Harley and have asphalt in my back" but rather a "hey look I just tanked my bike at 100mph and I walked away") then you get a cheap honda from the early to late 80's for less than a $1000 and go out and learn to ride. Wreck it. Survive. Quit or buy a newer faster bike.
