Question:
Just because Japanese bikes are better built, more reliable, faster, quieter, and better in every way, I see no need to insult out of jealousy.

Probably because Harleys use miles per hour in their speedos and Japanese use kilometers per hour?Where are the fuses located on a 1995 harley davidson model flstc?
About the mph vs. kmph. In Canada Harleys also use kmph because that's our speed measurement. But I think that ANYTHING that's not a Harley will be dissed by Harley riders, no matter what. Harley is a "mindset" if u know what I mean :( . Nowwhere else have I seen people rush to spend their (big) money for sub-standard technology, careless manufacturing, much time in the shop, and the 'privilege' of advertising a poor product. Yeah, yeah, Harley riders, I know it, I heard it all, spare me the rhetoric. I own a Honda Shadow Ace and a Ducati Monster (both less than 2 years old) for less than a flashy, tired, tricked out Harley. I also get people oggling my bikes but I'm laughing all the way to the bank and most of all I love riding for riding sakes not for impressing people who don't matter anyway. vroom, vroom! How do you drain the oil from a 1999 harley road king?
nuff said !Does any one have and willing to sell me a shop manual for a 1981 Suzuki GN400 motorcycle?
They are uninformed. My Honda VTX built in OHIO has more american made parts than Harley's. Also Honda makes some of the parts for Harley Davidson. I went to the Easyrider show last month and there was oil leaking from one of the bikes on display. I told my friend it looks like HD still has that oil leak problem. I spent half as much and have twice the bike .. the joke's on them!!jap bikes are called rice grinders ! and from where i stand,
hey follow the leader he's on a HONDA! that's why all my bro's
are behind me!!! ha ha ha. IT'S NOT WHAT YOU RIDE,
IT'S ABOUT THE RIDE! LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVE'S.
Where is the best motorcycle - ATV - lawn equipment auctions in Michigan?
its funny, a thread about harley riders putting down metrics and all it is is another harley bashing threadI have a 1971 kawasaki F7, and cant find aftermarket parts for it in general!?
CarQnA.com is pretty much an anti harley/harley bash fest with a few harley fans, yet people like you still come in and say "oh harley people insult metrics" then go on to bash harleys,
pretty stupid
Starting a cold Honda TRX 400EX in 20 degree weather?
I have referred to them as metrics, but never as a put down. It's just easier than typing Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki. I called them metrics when I was riding one.Your opinion = common knowledge?
Um..OK..Have a nice day.
Need wiring diagram for tail lights and turn signals on harley trike?
Its because Harley riders are always playing with their 'imperials' because their POS leaves them stranded on the way to the local corner shop and they have to drag out their imperial sized spanners. They assume that Japanese bikes have the same need for their 'metrics', which of course they don't.What s&s manifold can i use on my 96 inch motor for a g S&S carb?
My first bike was a 66 Sportster kick start. Jap bikes were not even considered unless I wanted a 350 Honda Dream. I've owned just about every bike on the market. To a Harley Rider, a metric bike is like burning the American flag. Buy American. They are working diligently to keep that loyalty. Yes metric scooters are more reliable. But wait till you have to resell it. H.D. is an investment. I choose two wheels period, regardless of make. How can you make your pocket bike super fast?
The term metric is really an industry term not a put down. Basically it is used because HD uses Cubic inches when referring to engine size and Japanese bikes use CC when referring to engine size. Also, bolts on HD's use Imperial sizes, ie 1/2", 1/4" etc and Japanese bikes use metric wrench sizes.Harley Hard Bags - anyone want to sell some?
It's not a put down.your second-hand, non riding hearing is not working dude. If they call them a "Ricer, Squid or Jap Crap"...that's the insult. I don't think J & P, Dennis Kirk, etc would put out parts catalogs for "Metric Cruisers" to insult the riding public.Where can I find parts for a Thumpstar (shock). here in San Diego?
Did you know that the Japanese have never invented anything, they have only perfected the idea's developed in the USA. The Japanese are very good at perfecting our idea's. This is a fact.Does anybody else find something slightly sexual about certain vehicles?
Yes, I do agree that most of the Jap bikes have more safety features on their bikes than HD offers. Yes they are quiet, but so is a Harley when it's brand new.
The design of the 4 cylinder Jap bike engine was designed in the USA, then perfected in Japan. I lived their, so I know this is true.
It's all about personal choice on bikes, I like'em all.
Accessories cig lighter for sat nav?
Some Harley riders are only interested in USA made, the truth is, the new Harley's have metric bolts on them.
They have improved their ride and speed, but will never run zero to 60 in 2.2 seconds. It's not their purpose, it's more about style.
Need to find cartoon Fat Hogs ridding on Harleys for a tattoo?
Now look at all the Jap cruisers they are copy cat bikes of all the HD models. This was allowed by the USA consumer & HD.
Which bike shud i buy..temme a gud bike..?
It's really just a loud minority of people who put down others' bikes - and it goes both ways!It used to really annoy me - I was never into harleys but I wasn't aware of any rivalry either. Then I started hearing things which REALLY put me off them to the point where I had nothing good to say about them. And of course there were the harley riders who endangered me on the road simply because I wasn't on one myself.
How much money should i sell my used 2003 Honda CR 85R for?
And now I've come full circle - back to not caring. Give me crap about what I ride and you'll get it back in spades, but I'm no longer annoyed with EVERY person who rides a harley.
European bikes are also metric and it's not a "put down" it's a classification. The same way one would refer to a foreign car.
I suppose metric rather than foreign with regard to bike because most bikers are" hands on " with their machines requireing the use or either U.S. or *** Metric*** tools.
Best way to secure a rally pack?
And I will add that you and your kind do an injustice to the riders of metrics who are not shitheadedpunks.
You're not a rider, yet you speak. I've riden both and I've actually found my Harley to be more reliable. I guess it's not common knowledge. Stick to subjects you're not completely ignorant of.
Synchronizing Carburetors on a 1999 Honda F4?
It could be a small, insignificant way for them to feel better about themselves, considering that they just dumped $15K + for an obnoxious (and leaky) status symbol when they could have purchased a more reliable (and quieter) Honda (or the like) for half the cost. What is a good first bike to have?
The fact that you're not a rider is glaringly obvious in the wording of your question. You're taking at face value something that someone has told you, that being that Japanese bikes are superior to all American bikes, which is not, as you put it, "common knowledge."What size (thickness) is the handlebars on a 2001 honda shadow spirit 750?
As a former Japanese bike owner/rider and a current Harley owner/rider, let me tell you that if we want to use a term to insult those who ride Japanese bikes, we don't call them "metrics," we call them "ricers." And we call you non-riders "cagers," because you ride around in your nice, safe, secure cage of a car all day long and have no idea what it's like to ride a bike or be a biker, all the while thinking that you're better than we are and know everything about bikes and bikers. Actually, we pity you.
What is the better rear tire size for a 2006 Kawasaki ZX10R?
There was a time when Japanese bikes were everything that you said, but that time is long past. Harley-Davidsons are now just as reliable and well-built as any Japanese bikes; I've owned my Harley for four years now and have had ZERO trouble with it.
Is a Kawasaki ZZR600 a good bike for a starting 6'3" guy?
As for being "faster," well, all I have to say there is that you obviously don't keep up with motorcycle motorsports, because if you did you'd know that Harley-Davidson won the Nationals last year in the drag bike competition. So much for Harley not being "fast."
And we don't want them to be quiet. They're not made to be quiet, and we like them that way. So on that point, you won't get an argument because we LIKE them loud! Again, if you were a biker and had almost been run over by a cager who couldn't HEAR you in the lane next to him and didn't SEE you because he was too busy talking on his cell phone, you'd understand these things.
Besides, I like riding a bike that's made out of iron and steel, not plastic and fiberglass.
Do you like the Triumph Rocket?
May I suggest that next time you limit yourself to things you actually know something about?
Hmmm- The children have spoken, must be true.
When was the last time you saw a 1935 Honda, or 1914 Suzuki?
The thing about a Harley is- if you don't know, you simply don't know.
Another bit of common knowledge, if you are not a rider, you have no real basis for your opinion. Try keeping your idiocy to yourself. Without the experience, you don't KNOW anything.
After some 30 years of riding Jap bikes someone took the words right out of my mouth.
Tired of hearing, "I've got 20+ years experience"!?
saying you are not a riderSAYS IT ALL
If you'd ever riden a Harley you'd never go back to another brand.
Just bought a 2006 harley sportster never rode before what is the gear pattern??
like the patch says "if I have to explain, you wouldn't understand"
Whats the best motorcycle brand?
It's not out of jealousy, believe me. We Harley riders know jap bikes are generally superior mechanically. We call riceburners metrics because they're manufactured in a county that use the metric system, and they use--almost exclusively--metric fasteners and measurements. When does the motor racing start bikes and cars plz?
There's no point in me trying to explain to you why Harley riders choose Harleys over other brands. The sarcasm in your post tells me tht you obviously wouldn't--and don't want to--understand.

Trouble shooting motorcycle side lights?
If you're not a rider then shut up and go on to something that pertains to you. It's not common knowledge you just like to whine.I ride a Harley and I have never called a Japanese bike a metric. Never even heard of this. Sounds like you are putting down Harley's instead or Harley riders putting down Japanese bikes. Maybe it is you that has the problem with jealousy. Why do you even care if you do not ride?
Like I mention before...
Its funny to hear these comments from either side. I have seen Harley's riders driving a Honda car and I have seen Metrics driving a Ford.
Grow up people!
Other than adding fuel and changing oil, what routine maintenance should I perform on my motor bike?
Calling Japanese bikes "metrics" is not distinguishing enough from a Harley. Newer Harleys are also metric of varying degrees of (apparently) up to 50%. See this post:Want 2 upgrade exhaust system for a Vulcan 900 Custom (Is a fuel management Fi2000R really needed)?

It makes them feel better about buying a twice as expensive bike with half the horsepowerWill indian bikes run in canada?
Obviously you're not a rider.Riders of all brands call them "metrics".
Why? Because they are. Every fastener is metric. All measurements/specifications are in decimal increments of a meter.
Methinks you may be too caught up in put downs and insults.
The "rivalry" you seem to be trying to exploit does not really exist in that magnitude.
I'm looking into getting a Hayabusa. Whats a good one to start off on?
As far as "better in every way", your statement is not common knowledge, just your (and might I add, inconsequential) opinion.
