There are two ways to travel. One is Central Line to Liverpool Street, change to Circle to Paddington, then train to Slough, change to branch line train to Windsor and Eton Central. This station is right opposite the Castle. Alternatively, Central Line to Tottenham Court Road, change to Northern Line (southbound) to Waterloo, then mainline train from Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside. Both the Windsor stations are terminus stations, so there is no problem about missing your stop. Both the Paddington(26 and 56 mins past hour) and Waterloo (22 & 52 mins past hour) services are every 30 mins off peak. The Paddington journey is 34 mins, the Waterloo one 54.Is paying extra for 1st class on Virgin worth it?

Stand facing Queen Victoria's statue with the castle entrance behind you. Now turn left and walk. About 600 yards along a road will join from the left. This passes the front of the castle mews. You'll see a tatty looking Well near the junction. This is where Prince Albert got his water from. It was polluted with cholera and eventually killed him. Don't drink it.
