How can I clean battery acid that leaked on an old electric train?

My Kids and me are trying to rezerrect an old Lionel Train--it hasnt been used in almost 25 years or more, upon opening the engine car, there was an Everyready battery still in there completley eroding and dried acid everywhere--I need tips on how to clean this please

Baking soda mixed in water (like a tablespoon in a quart of water or so) works for the chalky white build-up that you find on car battery terminals... so that might work, but of course you need to decide if the water might do more harm than good?? Good luck!
