If your purchase were off road tires you will hear a "roaring/whirring/humming sound". This is due to the block pattern of the tread design as answer #2 pointed out.The sound will be louder than a performance tire due to the the large size of the tire and design of the tread. Performance tires can also be loud as well but more towards the the "whoosing/humming sound. I have BF Goodrich KDW2's on my 5-series and they are loud but as answer #2 stated - performance does not always include quiet.
Wanli produces a good performance tire for the budget conscience. Go out and carve up the corners or climb a hill - depending on what tires you purchased - and enjoy your tires.
