I need a reason for this explanation. I remeber when I was in Barbados (where its the law!) my cousins friend refuses to wear a seatbelt because its "unnessessary" and even people in the States. mind you their are car accidents reported every 2 minutes. someone please explain the logic?

My grandpa refuses to wear his seatbelt because he said no one can tell him what to do. He thinks its his right as an american citizen to refuse to wear a seatbelt. Its his life, his car, his right. I always ask him if he were in an accident with me and he was killed though, i would feel that it was my fault even if he made that decision and why would he want someone to live with guilt for the rest of their lives.How can i put an emergancy stop on my lawnmower??

those people that think they don't need a seatbelt think they are invincible but they are dead wrong... in an acciden you can be thrown out of a car and run over or end up with injuries associated with not wearing a seat belt!Does throwing in pennies in a toll booth screw them up?
They forget to put the seat belt on.When they realize it is not on they are to lazy to put it on.When you finally get into a crash and get a few bumps on the head you might say to yourself ,hey seat belts are not so bad.I know several people that don't wear them. Everyone has their own reasons. My brother for example doesn't wear seat belts because several years ago he was involved in a serious accident the whole cab of his truck caved in, his truck rolled. The only thing that saved his live and his friend in the passenger seat they weren't wearing their seat belts and when they got hit they both flew into the floorboard of the truck if they would of been wearing their seat belts they would of both died. A lady I work with wont wear her seat belt because she is afraid if she got in an accident she might be trapped in her car if she is wearing the seat belt. Some people think they are uncomfortable, some people think they don't really save your life etc... People have their own logic why they don't wear them.

It is true, unfortunately. Especially younger adults. My own son was raised from the time he was a little boy to wear a seat belt. It was drilled into his head by my father, who was a motor vehicles manager for a large company. In October he moved to California and was in a car accident. The drive of the car was doing 75 which is the limit there on the highway between Arizona and California, he hit a cement construction divider, flipped the car, my son's feet went through the floor board and he was thrown about the car, breaking several other bones. Were either one of them wearing a seat belt while doing 75 MPH? Um, no. My son hasn't walked since October of 2006. The reason that they said they weren't wearing a seat belt? "They are uncomfortable." So, there is no logic really. Like smoking, we know we can and very well may get cancer, but we still smoke. We know that wearing a seat belt can save our life, but we choose not to. It is all a matter of choice, even if it is a bad one.Idiot driver.Should I have called the police?
I know a lot of older people hate wearing seatbelts. I know of younger people, also hate it. Sometimes it is because they feel they can't move as freely. I know I am just in habit of wearing one, and if anyone is in MY car, they must wear a seatbelt. My son, who is in elementary school, knows that is a must to wear seatbelts, as he is in a car with his father (my Ex husband) that drives like a maniac and has been in a lot of accidents, usually every other year, and he sometimes wears one and sometimes he doesn't.But, it is the law in most states, now, to buckle up. As in Barbados, I am assuming, there is more bikes and other ways of transportation than vehichles. As I know the USA has more cars than bikes, as a MAIN way of getting around.

Hope this helps. This is my opinion and eventhough we are in 2007, people still don't believe in Seat Belts, but when they get a high fine for not wearing one, and if they are not driving, the driver gets it, and I know I don't want to pay more money to the US, than I have to, lol!

Logic doesn't' come into play here. On very rare occasions, there are reports that a person was trapped because of a seat belt. I know of several people that hear one or two of these (true or not), and it causes them to form an opinion on seat belt use. Never mind the millions of people that have been saved due to the use of seat belts, these one or two stories are what form their habits. It doesn't make sense to me, either.What in your opinion is the best way to get a tailgater off your behind?
There is a logic behind this for some. I have a friend that refuses to wear his seat belt and his mom and dad will not wear one either. His sister was killed in a car accident. The coroner said that it was the seat belt that actually caused her death. Her neck was snapped. Another horror story, my sons friend was in an accident and the seat belt jammed on him trapping him in his car and it was on fire, he was burned alive while trying to get out of his car. I personally believe that these are rare incidences and I wear mine I believe more lives are saved then lost.Just curious...Why haven't seat belts really been updated?

yes it is still true,some people don't believe that they will save your life,but i know for a fact they will,there is no reason not to wear them that i can think of,but its hard to explain what goes on inside of other peoples head,either they think there doing a great thing by not wearing them and getting away with it,or they think there beating the law,but you cant cheat death,in a bad accident,who knows what the reason s for it,good luck.How does an anti lock braking system work??

I wear my seatbelt everytime i go anywhere.but is it the goverments job to tell us what to do in our cars? next should they make laws that all people need to eat three serving of veggies everyday to keep us from becoming obese therfore lengthening our life? how bout drinking any alchoholic beverage?
