Did Costco lose a big verdict around 2000 for installing front tires instead of rear tires?

Question:
I heard a rumor that Costco lost a huge case, around 10 million, on this issue. Apparently it is safer if you are only installing two tires, to install the front tires. As the rumor goes, they installed the rear tires, were sued over it, and lost huge. This supposedly happened around 2000, although that might be off by a couple or three years.

Answers:

What is the state age for a person to sit in the front seat?

That would be a tall tale for sure. There is no set rules for replacing tires other then to replace them when the tread wear dictates. In a front drive cars as most are today the fronts do wear faster. On rear wheel drive cars the rears tend to wear faster. This is why you should rotate your tire to keep the keep things even. So in short do to the fact that it never happened there is no case citation, date or jurisdiction to find for you.
