I know it's stupid, but I had a friend who was in a fender bender and nothing happened to the car seat but by law they had to get a new one. if the child seat has any damage or is bent in any way then it would only make good sense to re-place the seat ---- and do not jack around with you baby's life in any future accidents... I have never heard of a law that requires the seat to be discarded after a mishap. but, look at the seat and you must judge if it is worthy of using to help and protect the life of your child....

If your husband was in the car alone, that means the child's seat was not occupied. If the kid was not in the car, then there is probably no damage to the car seat. Just inspect it thoroughly and make sure there's no hidden damage to the straps, under the padding, etc. It should be OK.
