Movies aren't typically the best representation of real life. In the U.S., you do have to wear a seat belt. Specific laws and penalties differ from state to state. In Indiana at least, one is not required to wear a seatbelt in a truck or SUV that has a truck license plate. However, if someone's SUV has a typical car license plate, you do have to wear a seatbelt, weird, I know.

YES YES YESIt is a law in most States, some places enforce it more than others. KY just passed a law that they can stop you for not wearing you belt. It used to be that you have to be doing some other violation and when they ticketed you for that they would add the seat belt fine on to it.

Most states, yes. The specifics usually vary, particularly what circumstances net what fine, whether it counts for points, and whether they can pull you over for it. (In Alaska, they cannot stop you for it, but if they have any other reason to stop you, they can fine you for it)Could anyone recomend a radar detector that works well?
The only exemption I'm aware of is in vehicles which were manufactured before seat belts were required equipment. (And for states with replica title laws, vehicles which are replicas of those model years) So you don't have to wear seat belts in your '32 Ford, but you do in your '92 Ford.
Seat belt wearing is a state law, not a federal law in the USA.

Depends on the state. The states I've lived in, Michigan and Ohio, both require them.I think it's dumb. While you should be made aware of the consequences, in the end it should be YOUR decision. However, I do think that all children should be strapped in.
