Question:
I'm thinking of getting a Camry and I currently have an SUV. Now, I live in the south where everyone and their uncle drive big trucks and lot'sa people have cattleguards on the front of their big trucks. Is a Camry a good idea? We don't have children yet. Is there a website that can give me an idea of safe vehicles? Thanks :o)

Have you ever picked your feet in Poughkeepsie?
The Camry has a good frontal crash rating, but many Camrys have miserable side impact ratings. In 2002 the Camry only had a 2 star side impact crash test result based on the national highway and transportation safety administration. (NHTSA). You can see all the ratings here: http://www.safercar.gov/Is there a safer way to wear a seat belt while pregnant?
Also check out the ratings given by the insurance institute at: http://www.iihs.org
They do different testing and sometimes the testing done is extreme, but it gives you a gauge point.
The reason for the excessive cost for repairs as mentioned previously is due to the fact that the car, as most are today, designed for energy absorption. Basically energy in an accident must be absorbed, either by the human body or by the metal of the vehicle. Better to distort metal than to tranfer it to the human. Means if you do get in an accident, you'll have a better chance of walking away, but also be stuck without a car. Thus are the trade offs for safety.
Its a pretty safe car, but not the best at high speed accidents. My moms camry got hit, with a guy that was going like 25mph. it was 10000 dollars damage, and air bags didnt even go off, ( it was frontal crash)
Do fire engines, ambulances and police cars have maunal or automatic gear boxes?
not as safe as the ford fusion camry's are very costly to do maintanence on. a oil change, tire rotate trans fluid change is 350bucks in the dlrshp where i work. the lexus' are even more expensive I don't know why cuz they are just toyotas anyhow.More Questions & Answers ...
