Why are there no seatbelts on school buses?

Question:
The driver gets one but the kids don't have any.

Answers:

Give me five reasons why you you should use your seatbelt.?

School busses are one of the safest modes of transport WITHOUT seatbelts. The rules of the road favor them over just about everything except emergency vehicles. They have multiple visibility devices, and they are rarely if ever driven fast. They are big enough that very few vehicles can actually threaten the occupants in a collision.

Do bluetooth car kits interfere with parking sensors ?

Strobes, slow and stop lights, stop signs, drivers have CDLs, and in many cases years of experience, automatic tire chains...and the seat backs are usually padded. They're going to be pretty safe with or without seatbelts. And since the driver is the only one who can be slammed into the steering wheel, or through the windshield, they're the only ones who NEED a seat belt.

Are their any laws regarding small children in the front seat?

The worst thing that could happen to a school bus would be to get hit by a train, or to somehow burn completely. Evacuating a car is trivial. Evacuating a school bus is not, and seat belts would only slow it further.

Why don't school busses have seatbelts? They don't need them. They're among the safest modes of transport available (something like 75 times safer than driving a car, IIRC), the only things that come close are high speed rail and air travel.

Car Accident! I need HELP!?

Maybe because there's no profit in kids? Only kidding! Perhaps the reason is that who would take the time to actually ensure that all the kids are buckled in? And who would be there to unbuckle them in the event of an accident or fire? I'm sure kindergarteners, or even first and second graders wouldn't know how to buckle and/or unbuckle their seatbelts. Would you want your six, seven or eight year old child to be strapped in while a schoolbus catches fire? I don't think so .

Why does'nt the government release their test crash videos to the public?

Guess it depends on where you live. Where I am in NY our buses do have seat belts for the kids.

Must be a rural area, then. Many urban schools are going to restraint systems in their buses, and upgrading older buses. Depends on whether your school system can afford the retro-fit. I haven't looked into any buses in my area recently, though, so can't tell whether or not they have restraint systems. But they do exist.

Wrong tires slashed?

Some of school buses don't have seatbels because they think that they are safe and the driver's get one because the are in the front driving and if theres an accident he won't end up fliying out the front class.
