i've asked 2 other times so i hope i get it right this time. My question is about the seat belt law. i live in michigan and 24 been in a bad accident and not wearing a belt saved me. i will not wear one, i get tense, shaky and feel like im going to pass out if i put one on for a second. i got pulled over the other day for not have one on and i didnt get a ticket for no seat belt just for no proof of insurance(wasnt in the car) but if i had gotten a ticket for no seat belt it would have been my second and i can get ticket after ticket for no seat belt i wont wear one i will stop driving and riding in cars before i wear one. we all have choices and yet the government says make this choice or pay a fine, which i do and dont get it doesnt put the guy in the next car in danger because i dont have a belt on, yes if i get thrown out and land on someone or someones car but thats very rare. i dont have a problem with buckleing up the kids i do buckle kids up but im old enough to make the choice

i strongly feel you. and i agree with you. but do you know why its a law? its cuss the government is cheap. deaths costs them money. and they believe seat belts saves lives.What do you do if your car gets stolen and your purse was in it?
I respect you making a personal thought out choice. Glad to hear that you buckle in the kids. There are instances where a seat belt interferes, as you know. But in the long run you are more likely to get hurt more not being buckled up. A young girl was just killed near where I live because she rolled her car, had no seat belt on and was thrown 70 feet. I think it has to do with the price govt (county hospitals, medical benefits, disability) has to pay for people in severe crashes. The costs can go up to more than a million in long term care.

If you are poor (and compared to the costs of heavy medical care, most of us are) then you can apply for govt aid in receiving health care.
Then, if you are incapacitated you can apply for disability and Medicare, etc, etc, etc
If you are 12 but really short can you still sit in the front seat with an airbag?
So, I guess if there was something you could sign that said that you excluded yourself from ever applying for those benefits, then I can see why the govt would have no right whatsoever to apply those laws to you.

I agree, seat belts and motorcycle helmets should be a matter of choice. I always wear my seat belt in the car and wear my helmet on my cycle and would continue to do so without the law. But that is my CHOICE. The government has too much control over our lives. By the way, I also live in MI and I wish you luck on your no proof of insurance ticket. Michigan, unlike other states, can give you up to a $300 fine for not having your proof of insurance with you. It used to be that you could just bring your insurance certificate in and all would be forgiven. We can thank Governor Grandholm for that.More Questions & Answers ...
