A-frames are perfectly suitable but your speed is limited to 50mph. This just means that you'll be overtaken by even the slowest old granny. Check out www.theaa.com. They will be able to give you the full s.p.You can use either. I wouldn`t use an A frame abroad though. It`s a bit of a grey area, and you could get pulled up over it.
It is perfectly legal to use either an A-frame or a trailer. Used an A-frame for a number of years and never had a problem.
