normally there is a switch in the passenger footwellI doubt that you can unless - SMART produce their own baby seat which has a 'Chip' in it to turn the airbag off. When I worked for Mazda a little while ago they STRICTLY forbid the disconnecting of a passenger air bag on early MX-5 Models. (another 2 seater car). The legal side of doing so would be never ending. If the car has a passenger airbag and you have no way of turning it off, then that is how it should say. You may find that if it is disconnected, then you may invalidate your insurance.

You need to go to an authorised dealer to get it switched off. Do NOT attempt it yourself as it is dangerous and may suddenly go off, or you may unintentionally diable the drivers airbag. Your dealer will make you sign a consent form declaring that you want to airbag to be disabled.What s the point having a new car,if you can t drive it ?
Crash your car and poof, there goes your airbag... both of them...Not sure but its not a good idea either, the only safe way for your baby is to ride in the back seat with the baby facing the back seat,it is also recommended by various organizations.
you have never to put a baby in the front seat of any car which has an air bag even if it has been disabled .. baby will be safer in the back .

have u ever seen or had an airbag deploy? airbags deploy with alot of force to keep u from face planting into the steering wheel/windsheild. their intended to be the last line of defense against injury, and are intended to have seat belts already in use.the manufacturer of the baby seat makes it very clear: dont put a baby seat in front of an airbag.
baby seats are to be strictly strapped in the back seat. if u put the seat in front of the airbag, and it deploys, u'll wind up killin that kid.

I agree with Trevor J.I don't understand why a Smart car has airbags. Can't be a safe car. I'd imagine a normal sneeze would write-off the thing.

The Smart is actually very sturdy in collisions. I have been involved in two crashes with Smarts; once being hit by a Smart from behind while standing at a red light, and another time being the driver myself, hitting another car in a roundabout...i have just booked my driving test?
Both times the Smart was fine, except for fiberglass cracks, but both the other cars had to be towed away...

I have a Smart baby seat, and believe there is a chip in it that disables the air bag. I only use it for inner city driving, and think its a perfect city car - especially with a baby boy :-)
