Crash repair?

Question:
If you inadvertently backed up into metal post(about 3 feet tall) and sustained damge to your vehicle, how can you save money on repairs? I've got some ridiculous quotes(around $800) which I feel are a bit much. It involves pulling out the dent and spraying an area roughly 18in by 15 in.Will buying my own paint help? Any ideas would be appreciated thanks..

The quote is about right. Labor is the major cost of any body repair. After pulling, sanding,primering ,sanding, painting the whole panel to blend the paint correctly, and sanding,and clear coat, and wet sanding again the labor ($30-$75/hour) adds up quick. Spend the $800 taking a course on basic auto body repair and do it yourself. Then you'll never be screwed again!! LOL

In a city that has thousands of moving vehicles,should pushbike riders be not permitted during peakhour?

$800 sounds high - but if you have and want a nice car you probably aren't going to be able to do it yourself.

Do you have a "crash-free" driving record?

I researched all of this and bought decent equipment to paint my own cars. My money would have been better spent at Maaco!

Perhaps if I was more patient or went to a local night class, but I bull headed my way through and got what I deserved.

I can't see you car to say for sure. But I'd get another estimate or two. Plan on $350 to $650 for what you described (but you didn't say what kind of car). If it's a Mercedes, you got yourself a bargain quote! lol

If you care about it looking the way it used to $800 isn't too bad. What they would have to do (depending on vehicle make) is check your bumper skin for damage, if its damaged at all it would need to be replaced. Most bumpers now a days are made of a plastic material which can not be repaired, only replaced. If the metal under the bumper is damaged, quick get back to that body shop that gave you the quote and have them put it in writing.

I would go to the junk yard yourself and find a good bumper skin, install it and then go get it painted to match, you will save hundreds.
