Do I need 4 studded snow tires on a front-wheel drive vehicle? Or will 2 front ones suffice?

Question:
I'm getting "top of the line" Nokian tires. Guy at the tire place said with those tires 2 will be ok but my dad says rule of thumb is, if you're putting studs on you need 4. I have no clue.

Since in your case, all of these are the same 2 wheels (the fronts), that's all you need.

Car airbag question,?

*edit* The comments on lack of rear traction making you spin out are just ignorance. Research oversteer - see below. As long as the front wheels in a FWD car have grip and you're applying power, they will pull the rears wherever they go. The ONLY time you have to worry is when you're driving in reverse.

How can i keep my right foot still when using the accelerator whilst learning to drive?

Why are teenagers reckless drivers?

60 -80 percent of the braking is done on the front wheels on any car. ive run 2 and 4 studded tires on both front wheel and rear wheel drive cars. my druthers is all wheels having studs, but i live in interior alaska and studs are needed. we get black ice everywhere all the time.

Rear view visibility for tractor operators at the seat(without having to turn the head back)?

Bull crap. You need 4. Don't cheap out. Just because you have a front wheel drive car doesn't mean you only need 2 on the front. If that was true, then 2 rear tires on the rear (for the summer) with no treading will suffice. It doesn't. You need traction on the rear too otherwise when you turn, your car will slide out each and everytime. Your dad is right.

did not pass my driving test...?

Its actually scary to think people are actually putting on only 2 studded tires on the front. Jeez.

A question for you people taking a driving test...Ready?

if you are studding them then go with 4 as it will be very easy with studded tires to drive harder than what the unstuded rears can control and you will spin out, been there, done that, stupid idea, the standard rule now is also 4 snow tires at all time,a rear wheel lock up will almost always cause the car to try to swing ,you will love the nokians
