Driving with foot resting on clutch?

Question:
I just found from someone out that that its the completlety wrong to drive with your foot resting on your clutch, they said its to late to change now as i have been learning like that and have my test in a couple of weeks. But i will get a minor for it. How could my instructor not have noticed all this time? Do any of you drive with your foot resting on the clutch all the time?
I've been doing it from the first driving lesson i had, so i didn't know any better.

At night should we drive at a speed which would prevent you from coming to a stop within the distance?

You had better change your ways as soon as possible. "Riding" the clutch will keep the throwout bearing engaged and end in early failure. On the other hand, however, I see no connection of this phenomenon to a driving test. The tester should not care where your foot is as long as you complete your driving test to the legal standards. Good luck, but get your foot off that pedal.

Who goes first?

It is wrong to drive with your foot resting on the clutch. If you engage it slightly, you can prematurely wear it out. The instruction manual for my car mentions this. I'm surprised the driving instructor didn't pull you up on it.

Can our 10 year old be in the front seat with an front air bag?

in answer to your other points, you use the clutch a lot when driving. Try a few times without resting your foot on the clutch and see how you go. If it is too hard, then leave it till after you pass.

Have you ever..?

They cannot doc you points for that, but it would be in your best inter set to try to stop that ASAP. For GP, you have a foot rest on the left side of your clutch. If you leave your foot on the clutch, you might inevitable give some pressure on it, which will lead you to feel like you car is running at a higher rpm, but lacks a little in power. So by keeping your foot off of the clutch, you save yourself the hassle of worrying about the pressure of you or foot on it while driving. You would be surprised how often you put pressure on the clutch without knowing it when you rest your foot on it.

What is the best & safe cars for teens justing getting there permit ?

I don't know how old you are, but I would suggest that you forget about your test and learn how to overcome this. It will distract you because you will be very conscious of it and possibly cause you to make a mistake that will fail you. Resting your foot on the clutch causes premature wear of the clutch, even if you think your not putting any pressure on it. Give this some serious attention, and when you can drive with your foot on the floor without even thinking about it, then go for your test

Don't worry. Soon you will be replacing the burnt out clutch assembly. After you pay the bill you will forever remember to not put your foot on the clutch. A lot of us learn that the hard way.
