It depends on the auction. If it is an estate auction, then you can usually get an older low-mileage car for a good price. If it is an auto auction (the ones that sell hundreds of cars every week) then I would stay away. They don't let you test drive them and they are often "problem cars" that dealers took on trade-in and are trying to off-load. I bought one of these - the worst car I ever owned.

I shy away from company vechicles- usually they are very ragged out from employees driving and not caring. But for the most part, have been fairly happy with buying at auction.

NOOOO, unless you can test drive the vehicle or inspect it before you start bidding on a vehicle. Going to a few auto auctions you see a lot of ticked off people because of some major problems with the vehicle is discovered. (blown motor, tranny, brakes are shot, been in a major accident and never disclosed).
