this is true but rare there has been reports of this happening. It has something to do with the the static from the phone which is passed on to your hand and your hand touches the pump it ignites

When I lived in Massachusetts back in 1960 we used to leave the engine running while fueling during the winter. We never ha a problem. I guess the government thinks they changed the makeup of gasoline.
