I've rarely had a police officer be rude or mean to me. If you are breaking the law...i wouldn't expect them to be overly polite. However I always make sure I am respectful and do exactly as I'm told.

A trooper I dated once said he pulled over some clean cut looking guy for speeding and he happened to notice a flash of metal... the guy had drugs on him and was going to shoot the cop... over a speeding ticket... he hadn't even planned to search his car for anything illegal... was just trying to give the guy a TICKET and he could have gotten KILLED!!

They are trained to maintain their composure. Besides, being "rude" to people just for the hell of it isn't in their best interests. For all he knows, you could be related to some judge or politician and he would get in trouble. Or he might provoke you into a fight where he could get hurt.
