Question:
Paramedics are asking people to try to input ICE-" in case of emergency" phone number and name for immediate contact person in case you get involved in an accident, into your cell phone it will help them get in contact with your immediate family quickly, for proper medical treatment. If they are on a scene and can find your cell phone they will immediately look for ICE. Don't you think this is a great idea? It only takes a moment to ICE your cell phone.

I'm a paramedic, and I work with lots of paramedics. Trust me, no one's going to be looking for your cell phone. I can't think of one instance where I tried to find someone's cell phone while on scene. Why are you not supposed to get back in your car when pumping gas?
We're usually busy with life saving interventions, and calling a family member who may or may not have a clue about your medical history usually isn't very high up on my priority list. When there's a critical life threatening illness or auto accident, paramedics are concerned with stabilizing the patient. We really don't have time to call your family. Then there's the risk that they will panic upon hearing any bad news, drive like heck to the hospital and wind up in a wreck of their own.
If you have a medical condition that would affect your emergency care, please, get a "medic alert" bracelet. That's something that we are going to definitely look for on every patient.
Is it possible to buy a remote starter kit for my car?
The only benefit to "ICE" is that hospital personnel (who have more people to devote to tasks such as these) will be able to call your immediate family. Also, if you are going to use "ICE", make sure to put an immediate family member, spouse, or guardian as your contact. It won't do anyone any good if you put your boyfriend of two weeks as your contact. I doubt he's going to know anything about your medical conditions, allergies, or past medical history.
