driving in over drive will always save on fuel,unless towing or going up a steep grade this can put a greater load on the engine using more fuel.this can also cause the transmission to over heat.why dont people in hawaii use turning signals EVER?

if your in the city driving on d,does, if your on the highway or free way,,using over drive saves a lot of fuel,,but sometimes in the city the transmission will shift its self to death going up and down,,so i leave mine in d when in the city,good luck i hope this help,s.Did James Kim have the Onstar or a cell phone in his car?

Driving on Overdrive generally saves more gas when you are driving smoothly, and not constantly slowing down and speeding up. The reason behind this is because the Overdrive feature enables your transmission to shift into higher gears sooner then when in Drive, and this keeps your RPMs down, thus saving gas while driving around.Overdrive. Modern cars trannys are more refined than they were in the 80's. My car, a Toyota Tundra, knows when to stay in O/D and when to shift down. It DOESN'T have any problem at ANY speed.
You have to consider , what speed are you driving at and no jack rabbit starts. The trans. shifts constantly in Overdrive while in the city. in the city it is best to drive in Drive.....and on the highway, put it in overdrive. When the trans is constantly shifting....more chance to wear out. I would rather add fuel than to replace the trans.
