What is the safest way to get down a very icy hill?

Question:
We live at the foot of a mountain in Juneau Alaska. Our driveway is one tenth of a mile long, and is a 45 degree angel. We have parking at the bottom for the car, but getting down has been horrible. First snow, then rain, then lots of ice. I would appreciate some ideas. Thanks.

Why do people drive slow in the left passing lane?

dont use the brakes it will only cause a slide. put the car in a low gear (first or second) ond that will slow the car without causing a slide

i need a manual on 650 hollies i want to rebuild it but don't have enough brains yet please help me.?

lightly apply the brakes before going downhill put the car in second (yes even an automatic) and it has never failed me. when you put it in second the engine;s idol goes slower so you can proceed slow...note: you can never go over 30 in second. so take it out of second before reaching maxium speed. Never use it going up hill.
