I live in a small town and have never seen one. What are they for and how do they operate?
Answers:
1st time ALCOHOL OPEN CONTAINER in my car, does any one know the consequences?
lol im suprised you never came across one... you park there you need to put quarters, usually 25 cents is 30 minutes after time expires you cant park there unless you put more quarters or else you can get a parking ticket. The way they work is there is a timer there that adds 30 minutes or w.e the time is.If we all learned to drive sensibly?
A parking meter is a machine that control how long someone can park their car in a parking spot. In cities and larger towns, there are many cars, but few places to park them (parking spots). Cities and towns raise money by charing people to park in a parking spot (typically parking spots are on the sides of streets). For example, for 25 cents, a parking meter will shown that you are allowed 5 minutes of parking time (in bigger cities, in smaller cities and towns, you might get more time for the same amount of money). Parking enforcement officers come by every few hours to see if people have paid. If they come across a spot where the parking meter has "expired" (the car is parked in a spot beyond the time that the parking meter was paid for) they give a parking ticket to the car in that parking spot.Reason for car crashes in portugal?

A parking meter is one way the Government collects money I think. Well to work it, you put a certain amount of money in it( 25-50cents) and then it gives you a certain amount of time that lets you park. The cops drive by and check them so if you ever use one you should be aware of how much time you have
