What is the point of a 4x4 when it disengages at 25mph+?

Question:
I am planning on buying a Rav 4 Either I-4 4X4 or a 4X2 V6 ( same price). I will be driving it in minor snow, but the car also has traction and stability control.

Answers:

my 15 year old daughter was hit by a car crossing the street in a 25 mile an hour zone?

Not all 4 x4's disengage at 25mph or more, in fact, most new models have the option for the driver to select, as well as the ability to select/deselect traction control. The objective of 4x4's are to produce more traction at slower speeds, therefore the engine idles less to create this added traction. At higher speeds, this will cause excessive fuel consumption and produce more dangerous driving conditions and less control by the driver.

in Texas, if the towing vehicle's lights are clearly visible, does a small trailer have to have lights?

i know from experience that not all 4x4s disingauge at 25...mine accually wont until 55 mph
