When I was a kid my father was a fast, safe driver. No accidents, no scares. It seems to me we are all different and individuals should not be restricted from being themselves as long as they are responsible, and arbitrary speed limes do that. I dont support unsafe driving - some people are safe at high speed because their judgement is good. Each case should be assessed on its merits. What do others think?

Of course, and most of the people that post that they are against them, frequently break them themselves. Most people including insurance agencies seem surprised that only 2/3rds of the people think that its bad to drive 10 mph over the speed limit. Yet anyone who drives knows that on any particular point in time, with the exception of rush hour traffic, 95% of all people will drive at least 10 mph faster than the speed limit. What does this mean? Well, almost all of the people posting here are hypocrits, and dont even understand what a personal freedom is. Even worse is that they are pathetic and have no point or purpose in their lives. They dont drive to get somewhere, and sometime I wonder if they drive to stop you from getting somewhere. Im sure that you know about the people that will pull in front of you in the left lane while you are trying to pass and then drive at the same speed as the guy next to them, creating a moving barricade so no one can pass them. Clearly they dont benefit by doing this, because they could have just as easily traveled at the same speed in the right lane. But they do succeed at stopping everyone from passing them. And if you try to get a bit closer to them to send a gentle message that you want to get bye, many of them will either ignore or get upset thinking that you are the jerk riding behind them when all you want to do is pass them. They probably dont even realize that they were the jerk that pulled in front of you, and is insisting on holding you up, without even passing the guy on his/her right in a timely manner.What should I do on this driving situation?
Personally, I would prefer if the lanes on the left had a higher speed then the ones on the right. That way, im not insisting that you go faster, just go faster if you want to go in the faster lane. Yet others will feel the need to control you and your, feeling that this is the answer, rather than driving defensively, or just by putting down their cell phone and concentrating.

Good luck changing people's minds. If people are actually against only gambling, or productive people in society doing drugs in the privacy of their own homes, I cant see how they can justify speeding, seeing that speeding is the only one out of these three that can harm those which are directly participating. And I know that the people in this country, on average, dont have an open enough mind to even consider the first two things.

The only logical suggestion that I can make to you is to become a very productive member of society, purchase, and learn to fly your own aircraft or helicopter. That way, you can get to where you want to go in a timely manner without bothering all these hypocritical jerkoffs or let them stop you. Yelling at some jerk who wants to control you or cut you off in the left lane just doesnt work. First of all, there are way too many of them, and you already can tell by their actions that they, like the rest of the people posting here, are not reasonable. And yelling and screaming wont prove that you are more right and sane than they are. They will insist on some law or sign controlling them and everyone else, so that they wont have to use their own personal good judgement, for which they clearly have none.

So, just take my advice and become a productive member of society, and then purchase your own aircraft or helicopter so you can go as fast as you want. Let everyone else wallow in their worthlessness. And as you fly overhead, shout down on your bullhorn, just loud enought so that those miserable jerks realize that you are above them.

That's ridiculous. I'm sure you're dad was a safe fast driver. Wow. Who isn't? Ask anybody they will tell you they are totally safe drivers and some even drive better when they have been drinking. Whatever, the problem is, you can't go around making special laws for different kinds of people because then not everybody has the same opportunities. Even though they may merit being able to drive faster, they can't because not everybody else can do that as safely. Maybe it's not fair, it probably isn't but thats the American way. To a degree, but what you have to realize is personal freedoms end where they encroach on someone elses personal freedoms. In this case if you were allowed to go as fast as you wanted and would only be ticketed if the officer felt you were outside of your ability it would be a huge risk to other motorists, if something went wrong with your car etc you'd be much more likely to cause a fatality of someone ELSE in an accident. The personal freedoms argument is much more valid against the "why do we have to wear seatbelts" law, but it doesn't hold much water in relation to speed limits.Additional to ? re front seat and air bags my son is 32kg(64lbs) and 152cm (5ft)?

How about this. You're driving fast and you're keeping your eyes peeled. You pass a car parked on the side of the road and as you approach, the fool inside opens his door into your path. You can't possibly stop because there's hardly a meter between you.

yes. of course you should be free to drive as fast as you please. pedestrians need a good cull.Due to the overcrowding and underplanning of traffic volume, we really do need these limits in heavily populated urban areas. I would agree that in empty rural areas, roadspeed could be increased to a higher rate of speed. Speeding in cities is a bad idea as there are too many people, not all of them are focusing on what they are doing. Too many random pedestrians, school zones especially need special care. We all know that it doesn't take any time at all to have something go horribly wrong.

I'm not going to wave my arms and claim wild doomsday predictions as many people are good drivers when they are attending to the road and how they are driving. As the old saying goes "I'm not worried about me, so much as I am the other guy" which is why I base my argument that speed limits are not a restriction on personal freedom.

The second thing to consider is that driving is not a right. I think speed limits were put there for a reason. If you want to speed, it's your money you're wasting and your driving record that's getting trashed--as long as you keep off my bumper we'll be fine.
