It may not be the most "flashy" car but I would by a teenager a Saturn. I had one when I was 21 and I had it for a couple of years....it was awesome. Great on gas mileage...extremely safe...affordable and they look pretty cool too.

Auto gears safer than manuals?

Something that they can learn in and you not have to worry about the damage that will be caused. My first car was a 1964 Buick Skylark convertible. I was 14 when my dad helped me buy the car. I worked on it until I was 16 and I drove it for 5 years after that before I sold it. Having worked on the car and seeing what goes in to it and what it takes to repair it and take care of it helped me understand that it's not just a toy. That there is a lot of COST involved with the car and that if something happens to it I just can not forget about it and hope it gets better. My daughter just turned 14 and we have been looking at cars for her. She WILL learn the same thing I did. Never just up and BUY a car for a child. If you do that it will become a toy for them and they will have no value or respect for the car. Help them with the purchase of the car and have them WORK to maintain it. This is one reason why I was 14 when I got my car. So when I was able to drive I knew and had respect for it. May daughter wants a convertible very badly so I have talked with her about it and we are picking up a 1988 Le Baron convertible that she is going to restore. By the time she is 16 the car will be in operational condition and be a fantastic car for her to drive. I honestly believe this is the way to go. Never get something new and make sure it is something that will help them have respected for. If they are already 16, well they have to fix it up to get it running to the point to where it is drive-able. Then save their money for any future repairs. Because you do not want to be the one shelling out 750 bucks to fix that burned out transmission right? Hope this helps.

Seat Belts Hmm?

Either a Toyota Corolla or and Honda Civic......there 2 vehicles are VERY reliable, cheap, less gas-milage and slow (kinda) so ur teens won't get no speeding ticket.

What safety features do you like or not about 2006/7 Mazda new cars? (esp. if you've had an accident w/one)?

Well I would say something safe, reliable and inexpensive. Because most teenagers get into a few fender benders and you don't want to spend too much on a car that will cost a whole lot to fix...I would go with maybe a Neon or a Cavalier they are both cute reliable and inexpensive enough to where you can pay cash for and get liability on them.

Is it legal to travel in the back of a small transit van in the UK?

A Bus Pass. With automobile accidents on the rise, a bus pass would be the safest thing.

Do most of the people clear behind the wheel test in Los Angeles at the 1st attempt? How tough is it?

The best car for a teen is one that a RESPONSIBLE ADULT is driving. The biggest mistake in the world is letting anyone under 25 years of age drive a car. Everyone rails on senior citizens as the cause of accidents, when statistically, it's the idiots between 16 and 25 that are the bigger problem. That's why insurance companies charge enormous premiums for people under 25. Honestly, why would any rational adult allow a child drive a car? Have any of you been to a high school function lately? Have any of you seen anyone there under 25 who appears capable of the decision-making process that comes with driving? The world would be a much safer place to drive if the government would take the step of at the very least not issuing driver licenses to anyone under 18. 25 would be better, but as long as we consider 18 year old punks with no jobs who are still leaching off their parents as "adults", 18 would be a start.
