Seatbelt problems in 02 Yukon?

I have an 02 Yukon and my son is six years old and is still in a car seat in the middle of the back seat. I need to put him in a booster seat next to the window but I do not want him next to the window due to safety reasons. I went by the GMC dealer and they do not make a shoulder/lap belt for the middle of the seat. Does any one have a suggestion?

Generally, lap/shoulder belts cannot be retrofitted in center positions. Your son will be quite safe in the window seat using a good booster seat with side impact protection. But, if you really want to keep your son in the center postition, you can get him a car seat with an internal harness designed for children over 40lbs. Any tips on driving in former british colonies (opposite side of road)??

Without knowing his height and weight it is hard to make a recommendation, but the Britax Regent would probaly be a good choice. It harnesses to 80lbs and is plenty roomy and comfy for a 6 year old with lots of growing room. Most kids will be at least 8-9 years old before they're too tall to use it, often even older. My 6 year old daughter rides in an older version of that seat and she loves it. The drawback is that it is huge. If you frequenty have other car seats or large adults in the back with your son, you may be cramped for space. Then again, the Yukon is pretty big, too, so maybe not. The Regent does require the use of the top tether after 50lbs, but your Yukon probably has anchors already, and if it doesn't it can probably be added.

Anyone else leave the seatbelt in their car plugged in all time and just use the shoulder belt?
