I was recently involved in an accident and I'm being sued for it. What can happen to me??

Question:
I was recently involved in an accident where a motorcycle struck my vehicle. On the accident report it said that I violated the right of way and the motorcyclist had improper lane change. I didn't see him until he actually struck the front end of my car and I had just nosed out to cross a two lane road. I was not cited and not criminally charged. It is really unfortunate that it happened b/c he was not visible to me and it could have happened to anyone. Anyway, I am being sued and I'm just starting out in life. I don't know what limitations there are of damages that can be found against me. I don't have any assets, but I am trying to find out if i'll have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars over my lifetime. If so I'll be in debt forever. I feel horrible that this whole thing happened, but that's why they call them accidents I guess. Can anyone help give me an idea of what will happen to me?
