Turning Left onto a Busy Intersection?

Question:
OK I've really been getting bogged down by this

What does this mean?

I approach a busy road which i want to turn left on which means I have to cross over one lane. The problem with these sort of pseudo-intersections is that there is no stop sign or traffic light so when you want to turn you are basically stuck there forever. I am also bad with judging how far a car needs to be to turn. Sometimes I turn when the window is way too small and sometimes I miss the window. Does anyone have any tips for this or do I just have to sit there forever waiting for the road to be practically empty before turning?

Answers:

have you been in a automobile accident before, me yes?

I'm bad at turning left on busy roads too because I have a hard time judging how long breaks between cars are. I think this is the sort of judgment that you get better at with practice. I don't know how long you've been driving for (for me it's only been a couple years) but it might help to ride with someone who has more experience than you and pay attention to when they turn, or for you to drive with them as a passenger and let them point out when you should turn for a while until you get the hang of it.

will the rear end of my bus drag?

Better safe than sorry. If you feel unsure, don't go for it. Don't just judge by how far away the oncoming car is but by how fast it is approaching you. If it is coming really fast, don't go because if you misjudge the window, he won't stop in time to miss you. If he is coming on at a reasonable speed, you can go and he can brake safely (ie no screeching tires, flipping the car, etc.) or slow down slightly to let you pass.

Or just go turn at another intersection with a green arrow. That way you have no worries.

How can one prevent windshield wipers from freezing?

Be real careful first and foremost. Obviously wait till there is an opening but before that lead out alittle so that people can see that your trying to turn in. TAKE YOU TIME! your life is worth it. Lead out alittle wait for the opening and go.

Yokohama AS430 - Smooth ride vs. Safety in the rain?

Yeah I always have trouble with this. I always wait for a break. Or go the other way, and find a way to loop me back over. Or even before going to the turn I try to find another way. Is there any lights to the right, or left where your turning? Also you can call I think someone in your city about traffic here, and trying to make it easier. Hope that helps.
