How should I use a jake brake in slippery weather?

Question:
I have heard some drivers claim that they don't use the jake in bad weather but I have seen many drivers use them in the worst conditions on Rodgers pass and other steep declines in the BC mountains. I use the jake in combination with my brakes in similar circumstances and have not had the wheels lock. Is this a myth or have I just been lucky?

I drive a small truck. How much overhang is permitted on loads?

I never used the "Jake" on slippery roads...except...once...lol...... yes...it did make me slide...after that I just turned it off and used the brakes and gears.. I drove over the road for Henderson Trucking out of Salem, Il. and have about 900,000 under my belt over the years. I use to have to cross Donner pass and of course I was sent up to the Pacific Northwest. Hope I helped and truck em easy.

What do you say about Thiruvanathapuram roads?

yes using the jake on slippery roads can be interesting.ive had the wheels lock up a few times but nothing serious.it really comes down to how quick you get on and off the switch,i use the switch manually on low on icy roads until i get a feel for the road.
ive been doing this since 1984
good luck

Drunk People Falling Asleep in Taxis?

I've used Jake but only on a two/cylinder basis. My Freightliner allowed me full or partial jake power. Look at using the trolley break more than your tractor and trailer break system combined.
Don't DOWN SHIFT to help slow you down, the extra torque (energy) will cause your trailer to swing around so you can see if all the lights are burning as your trailer passes you. I've got about alittle over 1/4 million miles driving in the NE.
